NBPC New Media Insitute: NMI 2007 ~ Juke Joint Live 5mins
Produced by Tania Cuevas Martinez, Jacqueline Olive, Darcie Sanders
As part of NBPC's New Media Institute 2007, 26 producers gathered in Jackson, Mississippi to create new media pieces documenting blues culture in the Mississippi Delta. Their final products are as varied as their talents; video and audio pieces, interactive locative media geo tags, even website architectures. NBPC's NMI 2007 was a partnership with Mississippi Public Broadcasting, the Mississippi Blues Trail and the B.B. King Museum. These pieces are scheduled to become part of both the Mississippi Blues Trail, and the B.B. King Museum.
Juke Joint Live
Hear complete Bryonn Bain Poem "Sojuke"
This project was planned as audio pods within a physical installation which will recreate the juke joint environment and work as an interactive experience for the audience. The listener will follow two hosts who are looking for something new and exciting to do on a Saturday night. They invite the audience to explore with them the blues, and to tour the Delta in search of the best Juke Joints Jackson Mississippi has to offer. Along their travels they will learn about the history of the Blues, get to speak with the legendary B.B. King (thru an archival interview) and learn about and groove to contemporary blues music and the artists who perform it.
