I like "Realness" very much. I love the way the relationships are portrayed. I think David Barclay Moore does such an excellent job of making this less "heavy" than it usually is. I think people lack a certain casual/lively attitude when they make films about transgender people. The tone here was great, and obviously there was a lot of trust with the filmmaker because here you have the subjects being completely candid. The main character, Tika, says something I find interesting: "Black men a lot of times are raised by their aunties and grandmas, and they're coddled." The assertion being that black men often look for relationships that would mimic/replace that coddling.
Is this true on the whole? Is it true in part? How does one tell when a black man is coddled? Any symptoms? What do you think?
