BLACK PUBLIC MEDIA
WEEKLY DISPATCH
By Leslie Fields-Cruz
By this time next week, the United States of America will be engaged in the final day of an historic election. Regardless of how it turns out, I hope everyone has a safe voting experience and I look forward to finding out who will serve as the nation’s 47th President. Meanwhile, Black Public Media is preparing to launch a different sort of campaign: our annual year-end fund drive.
This year, we invite all who value our organization and the services it provides to make a contribution.
Help Us Help You!
As a subscriber to our monthly newsletter and Weekly Dispatch, we know you’re someone who appreciates Black Public Media. You know we promote the development and distribution of Black stories. You know the programs we fund are broadcast to millions of viewers each year. You know we serve scores of media makers directly with funding, mentorship and professional development. You know that the public-facing engagement programs we offer are free to the public. I hope you also realize that these programs are not inexpensive to develop or run.
Black Public Media receives substantial support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting annually. We’re also fortunate to receive funding from our foundation and corporate partners. We couldn’t do our work without these institutional partners. But we also know that receiving support from individual donors like you sends a message to the other contributors. It says that the community we serve values our work.
A Different Campaign
So, after Nov. 5, the campaign we hope you’ll focus on is ours. When you receive an invitation to contribute, I hope you’ll respond with a donation. The amount you give is up to you. The campaign will run through the end of the year. Whether you become a sustaining donor or make a one-time gift, every dollar we receive positions us to attract even more from institutional donors.
We look forward to counting you among our benefactors. Together, we’ll ensure that a vibrant array of Black content remains accessible and ubiquitous on the public media landscape.
