For Media Makers

Black Public Media is the go-to destination for those seeking community, funding, training, and distribution opportunities that support Black media stories. The following programs are specifically designed for filmmakers. 

Open Call

BPM’s Open Call is for feature-length documentaries that are currently in pre-production, production, or post-production, and are intended for public media distribution. Selected projects will receive funding to advance the work as well as an opportunity to participate in PitchBLACK. Our 2026 Open Call submissions will be accepted starting Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Rolling Call

BPM’s Rolling Call invites submissions of completed shorts (scripted or nonfiction) or long form documentary films to be considered for our series AfroPop: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange or AfroPop Digital Shorts. We are looking for films to highlight the diversity of the global Black experience through stories on music, art, human rights, sports, politics, health, or anything in between. We welcome new talent at HBCUs and other film programs. Completed programs must meet PBS technical and editorial standards. Submissions are accepted year-round.
