Earlier this week, members of our board who reside in Los Angeles and I hosted an intimate gathering to discuss BPM’s history, our many accomplishments, and our future plans. Our guests included an assortment of prospective donors, former grantees and other interested parties. We expressed our determination to continue serving independent content creators well into the future, a message that was enthusiastically received. Our guests agreed to use their resources and networks to help us continue the BPM legacy. We were generously granted space for the event by our new friends at LA84 Foundation.

During this time of uncertainty around the future of federal support for public media, I’m here to assure you that BPM is not going anywhere. Yes, we may have to make some adjustments, but we will continue pursuing our mission. And we know we’re not alone. You can expect us to host more of these events across the country in the coming months. When you get invited, I hope you’ll join us. When you’re invited, I hope you’ll join us. If you have a space we can borrow to host these events, we’d love to hear from you.

When Barack Obama ran for president, “Yes, We Can” went viral. When he prevailed, the doubters were shocked. Those who embraced his messages and joined the strong coalitions his team built, were elated.

It is tempting to wallow in despair right now. The world is an increasingly hostile place. But we must lean into the same spirit that has fueled past victories. I believe we can and we will survive the current choppy seas. It won’t be easy, but once the still waters return, we’ll be stronger, and bolder than ever. I can’t wait.

Surveys are Coming

Finally, I want to update you on the BPM newsletter and website surveys we promised to have ready this week. Several factors interfered with our ability to deliver on that promise, but the surveys are still in the works and should be available for you next week. Watch this Weekly Dispatch and our social media for updates. We look forward to your feedback.
