BLACK PUBLIC MEDIA
WEEKLY DISPATCH

Summer’s longer days, warmer nights and leisurely pace make it the perfect season for movie and TV-watching on large and small screens. If you’re among those whose watching is guided by curated lists, you’ll be pleased to know the New York Times recently named BPM’s AfroPoP Season 18 to the top of its 30 Shows to Watch this Summer list.
The acclaimed series kicked off last week with the premiere of Listen to Me, a documentary feature about the challenges Black women face when pursuing maternal health care. The brainchild of Stephanie Etienne, a certified nurse-midwife and Kanika Harris, a public health professional, the film has been warmly received on the film festival circuit and has a robust engagement strategy that targets Black families as well as health care practitioners.
AfroPoP will premiere a second feature-length documentary on BPM’s YouTube channel July 2. Stay tuned for more information about This World Is Not My Own in future editions of the Weekly Dispatch.
So, if you haven’t already added AfroPoP S18 to your summer what-to-watch list, consider checking it out.
